I’m a Public Health system strengthening expert with more than 15 years actively managing, designing and implementing diverse field operations both in Humanitarian and stable development contexts across Africa. I’m adept at public Health project management; coordinating the capacity of the County infectious disease surveillance teams including AFP surveillance through conducting sensitization & training of environmental Health staff and Community volunteers in line with global Polio eradication plans. These efforts have given me confidence in managing, supporting and monitoring community-based Health systems, coordinating preparedness initiatives against emerging public health threats like Ebola in West Africa and Polio eradication efforts in Kenya, South Sudan and Somalia and developing early warning systems & preparedness through application of community based integrated surveillance and Response (IDSR) protocols, improving Community mobilization to support childhood immunizable diseases; and to promote behavior change communication initiatives (BCC) at the community level. I’m adept at supporting our public Health staff; Capacity building and training of community health mobilizers to provide Health education, community-based surveillance, referrals & reporting of any suspected cases of COVID-19, Polio, and other vaccine preventable diseases at the community level. I’m highly skilled in Budgeting, diplomacy, negotiation and representation at the UN and INGO’s forums like UNICEF, WHO, WFP, FAO, USAID, CDC, AMREF, WORLD VISION etc. for collaboration, shared plans and response.
§ Providing technical leadership, program oversight and operational support of the Cholera response Program in Malawi. This was a cholera emergency response program covering 3 vulnerable districts in Malawi. This was a 12 months program with a total budget of about 3.500,000 USD. It was implemented on time & with a 3 months no cost extension.
§ I represented OXFAM at the coordination forums like UNICFE, WHO, MSF, INGO’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development and the Ministry of Health within Malawi ensuring coherence and one approach is adopted and shared in the country. We developed and maintained both formal and informal networking and communication with national and international organizations and stakeholders for all infectious diseases e.g., cholera, Polio etc.
§ I collaborated with the M & E department to produce applicable monitoring and evaluation framework, systems and tools within the program implementation, including development, analysis & utilization of baseline & secondary data, periodic reviews, end line surveys, donor reporting and internal/external evaluations. My team also collected data on weekly basis and shared at the WESCORD coordination forums for decision, quality and program adjustments.
§ I was directly responsible to design and manage a consultancy activity titled "Baseline study for the Gender Roles and WASH analysis in Emergency situations in Malawi. I developed the ToR, managed the entire recruitment, supported field work for the consultancy firm. I provided oversight on the field operations including data collection, the entire process of the study.
As part of national staff capacity building, I was responsible for providing technical guidance, support and direction for about 8 senior officers of the organization, 35 of the ministries of Water and irrigation, and 25 Public WASH officers as appropriate including: needs assessment, technical design of the program, reporting, financial management and proposal development, M&E for program effectiveness, quality and technical robustness
§ As a team Team Leader I supported the formulation of Health policy guidelines, reviews and policy communication to WV national offices in Africa aimed at increasing the quality, relevance, scope and coverage of our public Health program. I directly supported about 8 Health Advisors in East and central Africa, offering programmatic support for health system strengthening using virtual online platforms, field visits and other models for communication
§ I supported the regional offices to fundraise and to increase financial portfolio by review of proposals & solicitation documents to ensure quality and coherence to donor conditions, networking, communication & relationship building with potential donors to enhance our probability for a positive scire, prepositioning for funding to increase our niche and volume.
§ I coordinated the effort to Position World Visions’ Disaster Management (DM) as a competent and preferred humanitarian agency among stakeholders through development of early warning systems, data and emergency situation report is gathered, analysed and reported by National Offices on a monthly basis for timely decision making.
§ I supported the Ebola response in West Africa by working alongside the Ministry of Health officials in developing, reviewing and utilizing their epidemiological data on Ebola on daily basis, supporting community surveillance and capacity building of volunteers and village-based volunteers to contact tracings, data collection, reporting and development of community action aimed at controlling the spread of Ebola virus.
