I have 15 years’ experience investing and supporting businesses and entrepreneurs in SME segment across various sectors providing growth finance and business advisory expertise to run their business optimally, realize full potential and long term success.

I am currently an investment manager in GroFin Kenya, a multi-national development financier with strong focus on impact and financial return. GroFin specializes in lending and supporting entrepreneurs , growing ambitious and scalable ventures and SMEs into successful, impactful and sustainable enterprises through business support, strategic advice, and providing access to investments.

I have significant experience in key priority and high impact sectors such as Agribusiness/Agri processing, renewable energy, Health care water and sanitation manufacturing and education. Prior to joining GroFin Kenya, I worked for 8 years in Standard chartered bank as a Relationship Manager Business banking having joined from Co-operative bank where I commenced my professional career in business banking.

I am certified by various learning institutions such as Moody’s Analytics, Udemy, Culhane consulting South Africa and by Kenya bankers Association in sustainable investments, credit risk assessment, financial statements analysis, cash flow modeling and business viability assessment.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in administration from the University of Nairobi.

My strong business acumen and deep experince in development finance, impact and financial return focussed investments in businesses operating in high impact sectors while investing funds with diverse investment strategies has equipped me with relevant knowledge and skills to negotiate,conduct financial and credit risk analysis,impact measurement and reporting and close quality investment transactions.

I have demonstrated knowledge in deal sourcing, pipeline development of good fit deals,grant financing, conducting financial due diligience and evaluation of transaction viability

I have initiated, screened, and structured deals in Small Growing business Fund (SGB FUND)- A fund that was set up in 2014 and exclusively invests in Africa targeting small Growing businesses especially start up and early-stage growth by offering them growth capital and business support to create and sustain quality jobs in areas with high rates of poverty and provide vital products and services to them.

NETWORKS & PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :

· I have worked in close collaboration with gender lens initiatives such as Invest2Impact challenge that aims to identify 100 potential women entrepreneurs in East to support their access to funding and business sustainability.

· I am familiar with impact funds such a DIFYE-(Dutch investment fund for youth employment) and CFY (Challenge for youth employment)-that seek to identify and support enterprises which through their growth create significant youth and women employment opportunities.

· I have participated in WRI (world resources institute) land accelerator programs Africa targeting entrepreneurs operating businesses involved in restoration of degraded forests, farmlands, and pasture. The programme provides mentorship and technical training and connecting them with potential impact or climate change investors.

· I work in close partnership with SME support centre (SSC) that offers business advisory and investment capital mobilization services to SME’s by linking them with investors targeting diverse sectors.

· I am currently Managing an investees portfolio of circa USD 10 million Assets under management (AUM) in key priority sectors such as Agri processing, renewable energy,manufacturing,education, and healthcare.

· Expert knowledge in writing grant proposals aimed at supporting high impact investments in Africa to mitigate the negative effects of Covid-19 on their businesses such as German Development bank (KFW) Grant in 2020 in partnership with GroFin.

1. Deal Origination -Source and identify good fit deals in line with GroFin investment strategy to build a continuous pipeline of investment deals.

2. Transaction Development-Identify prospect needs and effectively sell value proposition to fulfil these needs, Screen applications effectively by conducting financial due diligence, determining viability while applying credit risk analysis policy framework. Build financial model verifying and cross referencing key assumptions and projections in line with business model.

3. Portfolio Management & Monitoring-Conduct Quartely formal clients visits and prepare business Quartely reports on business viability, financial performance, ESG compliance and collateral condition and insurance reviews.

Collect and record impact data which includes number of jobs created and sustained and numbers for youth and women employment.

Restructure investments that are viable but under performing and hand over non- viable ones too legal collections.

4. Business Support-Support the client in financial planning, cash flow management risk assessment and mitigation plan. Introduce ESG best practices and compliance to regulatory requirements and formalize the business with proper financial management systems. Create and sustain quality jobs while employing good labour practices and facilitate business linkages through network of SME service providers and clients.

5. Continuous Impact measurement, management, and Reporting- Providing partners and Investors with continuous Impact measurement data that is well managed accurate and reported on time on a quarterly basis using GRID tool.

6. Investment Expertise/Knowledge-Sharing successes, knowledge, and experience with colleagues as well as lessons learnt.

7. Writing grant proposals- Crafting detailed grant proposals to Investing for employment fund IFE, a subsidiary of KFW (German Development fund) to offer extensive support to businesses that were adversely affected by the negative effects of Covid-19 by offering bridging finance to help them regain liquidity and solvency and maintain numerous jobs that would otherwise have been lost due to containment measures imposed by the governments.
