Herbert Akhusama

I am highly motivated self-starter, registered critical care nurse practitioner with twenty years’ experience of practical/clinical experience. I am currently working at Kenya Red cross emergency medical services E plus on contract basis as paramedic in the ambulance with advance cardiac life support. Previously I worked with government of Kenya ministry of health in-charge of the health centre, African medical and research foundation (AMREF) running community health project in rural areas. Clinical experience at Aga Khan University hospital intensive care unit and high dependence unit after graduation as a critical care nurse to date on part time. I have hands-on skills and a high level care of patients and competent health care professional who knows how to develop and maintain excellent working relationship with physicians, colleagues and clients.
Recently I have complete training in Basic Emergency care course by World Health Organization (WHO), International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM).I have also been trained and handled corona patients and use of isolation chamber and also Ebola case management. I have assisted in transfer of ground and air ambulance transfer of patients.

Training on Basic Emergency care (BEC) course from 14th to 21st 2023 at Severin sea lodge. The Wold Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) developed the course for frontline providers who manage acute life-threatening illness with limited resources.BEC is based on the clinical recommendation of the WHO IMAI District Clinician Manual, WHO Pocket book of hospital care for children, WHO Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment(ETAT)and WHO Intergraded Management of Pregnancy and Childbirth. It includes modules on the ABCDE and SAMPLE history approach, Trauma, difficulty in breathing, shock and altered mental status. Research Participated in Malaria/Anemia – WHO 1998 by Welcome trust.
