Roles

Flight Operations Inspector

• Ensure that aviation organizations and personnel comply with regulatory requirements
• Enforcement of investigations and prepare final reports and recommendations
• Review manuals and other documents associated with certification requirements of airlines, air agencies and air operators for accuracy and compliance with Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations and making recommendations
• Evaluate Air Operators for purposes of certification and make recommendations to the Chief Inspector or supervisor
• Evaluate training programs to ensure they meet the requirements of KCAA regulations, training facilities and make appropriate recommendations to the chief inspector or supervisor
• Undertake a variety of crew certification functions
• Conduct surveillance duties in conformity with the surveillance manual
• Take appropriate corrective actions on deficiencies noted and make recommendations to the chief inspector or supervisor

Dangerous Goods Inspector

• Issue authorization to air operators to transport dangerous goods by air
• Issue exemptions and approvals related to dangerous goods
• Review dangerous goods procedures for all air operators
• Review dangerous goods training programmes of all air operators
• Review dangerous goods training programmes for all entities on the ground involved in the transport of dangerous goods by air
• Inspect air operators in relation to the Transportation of dangerous goods by air
• Inspect shippers and handling agents in relation to the Transportation of dangerous goods by air
• Make recommendations to clients for them to improve on operating standards and carrying out research on national and international trends related to Dangerous Goods
• Investigate dangerous goods incidents and undeclared/mis-declared dangerous goods consignments reported to the CAA
• Gather dangerous goods incidents and accidents information

Achievements

Conducted on-the-job training for Flight Operations Inspectors from ANAC-NIGER on the below tasks;

• Inspect a General Operations Manual

• Inspect Flight Following and Flight Location
• Approve Aircraft Performance Operating Limitations and Airport Data

Led a 5-phase certification process leading to the approval to transport Dangerous Goods by Air for MAF-Kenya airlines.

Aviation Safety and Security Management, ASSM)

Reporting to: Head of Training, ASSM

Roles

• Ensured all ATO requirements for Flight Operations Officer (FOO) Course are met to the satisfaction of the Authority
• Ensured that training manuals for the FOO course are prepared in a manner that is required by the Authority and that the certification of the FOO course by the Authority is kept current
• Provided leadership to the section and run day to day activities in consultation with HOT-ASSM
• Maintained a roster of staff under the ASSM section, supervise delivery of courses as per timetable, certify claims for staff in the section before submitting to HOT-ASSM for verification and Registrar Academic Affairs for payment authorization
• Participated in the identification and evaluation of applicants for courses in the section, provide guidance and mentorship to students, and coordinate industrial attachment
• Coordinated administration of examination in the section while ensuring adequate security and control of examination material and scripts entrusted to my care
• In an on-going manner, provided contextual information on the trainings and challenges that will aid decision making and curriculum review
• Assisted in the maintenance of academic discipline and integrity while ensuring that the examinations and evaluation of students in my section is beyond reproach by facilitating the supervision of examinations and file reports of any malpractices in accordance with established EASA examination guidelines

Reporting to: Manager, Flight Operations Engineering

Roles

• Ensured that all flights are dispatched in accordance with Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations applicable to aircraft operations
• Furnished the pilots by appropriate means, with information necessary for the safe conduct of delivery and ferry flights
• Prepared, processed and provided all updated dispatch and meteorological information for readiness of flight crew briefings for delivery and ferry flights
• Provided timely briefing to flight crew, in conformity with Company policy and Civil Aviation Regulations for safe operation of delivery and ferry flights
• Provided Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) pre-flight briefing for all crew departing from Nairobi and other stations where applicable for delivery and ferry flights
• Advised Load Control on any payload status on the sector(s) to be flown so as to maximize payload
• Filed ATS flight plans with the relevant Civil Aviation Authorities and communicated any changes thereof in good time in accordance with legal requirements for delivery and ferry flights
• Monitored all assigned aircraft for restrictive Operational MEL/CDL and plan flights considering the restrictions in consultation with the MCC

• Participated in the successful route launches of six new company network routes
• Successfully updated the company’s ETOPS manual and obtained the necessary approvals from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority
• Fostered good relationships with the industry stakeholders especially the Civil Aviation Authorities of different countries to ensure smooth approvals of our foreign operator’s permits as well as landing and over flight clearances
• Developed several routes that resulted in a direct profile that significantly reduced operational costs of the company
• Effectively ensured Navigation and Communication related information is current in the Flight Planning System to support day to day operations
• As a level 2 IATA fuel inspector, successfully carried out on the job training for other IFQP members who ended up becoming IATA fuel inspectors.

Reporting to: Fuel Manager

Roles

• Developed databases for all fuel burn-offs by route by aircraft and gave the fuel biases to the Fuel Management task team
• Tracked and built databases of fuel initiatives, such as IRL/SECT/CDA/CI/ Alternates and reduced contingency fuel in order to advise the business on corrective action
• Coordinated with Fuel suppliers to ensure service delivery on time
• Undertook IATA Airfield Fuel Inspections on Behalf of the IATA Fuel Quality Pool as allocated by the Pool in order to maintain high quality standards and procedures of Jet fuel handling
• Collected all the voyage reports and filed them
• Verified fuel data before entering/scanning into the SABRE and Fuel Plus for accuracy
• Ensured all fleet notices relating to fuel were filed and up to date
• Tracked, recorded and filed all the fuel prices across the network
• Tracked fuel availability in all stations & alternates using NOTAMS and advised Dispatch & Deck crew

Achievements

• Led a fuel efficiency project on water uplift reduction as part of a cost saving initiative for the airline
• Conducted fuel quality inspections in over 40 airports worldwide.

• Assisted in coordinating of PR Marketing activities
