  • Established and launched Watamu drop-in center, screened injecting drug users for HIV, TB, and Hepatitis B, and all those who tested positive were enrolled for care and treatment
  • Ensure a good turn up of Injecting drug users for counseling sessions, we introduced a feeding program and hygiene kit, which involved having a healthy lunch after group therapy sessions followed by taking shower and grooming
  • Created HIV awareness among their peers and strictly discourage sharing of needles, this significantly contributed to a decrease in the transmission rate of blood-borne diseases
  • With the support from the mobile outreach van, managed to reach the furthest remote area and provided medical services to IDUs who could not be accepted at the normal government or private facilities
  • Responsibilities:
  • Created acceptance and pioneered in launching a needle exchange program in a highly sensitive Islamic community
  • Provided leadership in developing work schedules for the Centre to allow for the smooth running of client identification registration and service acquisition including referrals
  • Oversaw the preparation of budgets for specific actions including procurement of commodities where applicable under direct supervision by the position
