Embedded Systems and IoT Trainer

Gearbox Academy
Nairobi, Kenya, Nairobi Province
05.2024 - Current
  • I am currently a trainer in Embedded Systems and IoT at the Gearbox Academy.
  • Gearbox Academy is a non-profit organization that seeks to offer training to students and tech enthusiasts in Embedded Systems Development, Microcontroller Programming, and Networking Fundamentals.
  • My main role is to offer guidance to two current students in their learning journey, and also assist them in developing IoT-based projects.

Research Scholar

Kenya Space Agency
Nairobi, Nairobi Province
08.2022 - 04.2024
  • I took part in the development of a 3U (Unit) Nanosatellite called Tafiti, under the Kenya Space Agency. This ongoing project is being undertaken by a consortium of four Kenyan universities, with close guidance from Kenya Space Agency and Sayari Labs
  • My role was in the development of the On-Board Computer (OBC) subsystem hardware, and the Payload Subsystem.
  • The OBC is the heart of the subsystem, which will monitor the other subsystems, record and store telemetry and satellite data, whereas the Payload will house the camera, which will capture images of the earth surface to provide data for aid in various sectors such as Agriculture and Urban Planning.
  • During this project, I was also involved in writing a research paper titled "Development of an adaptable On Board Computer for a Nanosatellite". The link to the paper can be found here.

Student Intern

Gearbox
Nairobi, Nairobi Province
05.2022 - 08.2022
  • During my internship, I was part of a team of about 10 people based on Machine Learning that was tasked with developing a facial recognition model for implementation in a door automation system.
  • My main task was to research on the framework to implement (Tensorflow/Keras), and aid in collecting data that was used to train and evaluate the model, as well as to develop the model architecture.
  • This endeavor enabled me to gain practical experience in research and development, as well as team collaboration.
