Work History

Global Head of Culture Change

Oxfam International
Nairobi
08.2019 - Current
  • Spearheaded and facilitated multi-lingual sessions in co-creating Oxfam’s Culture Framework with Oxfam staff from across the confederation by applying the theory of change and other organizational development theories.
  • Strengthened the 360-degree leadership feedback offered to Executive Directors, Regional Directors, Cluster Directors and Country Directors at Oxfam by including a coaching approach to the process.
  • Steered conversations in the confederation to define diversity, representation, equity and inclusion (DREI) at Oxfam. By influencing the Executive Board to start conversations on DREI, the board shared their commitments toward advancing the DREI agenda. This led to the formation of an internal forum (The Baraza) that is aimed at keeping Oxfam accountable for its DREI commitment.
  • Stimulated active participation of employee resource groups, hence creating awareness of Oxfam's DREI agenda, which focuses on four pillars: disability, race, gender and sexual orientation. From this support, the teams have created awareness by engaging staff in conversations on these key topics as well as collecting data in their specific groups to support the DREI agenda.
  • Initiated the project management and communication of 'The Baraza', which is an internal forum that is mandated to create safe spaces that staff can engage in to address institutional racism, racial justice and any other form of discrimination.
  • Facilitated toolkits for the Oxfam HR network to promote diversity and inclusion in the recruitment, selection and onboarding processes.
  • Participated in an exclusive Culture Lab experiment facilitated by CHS Alliance that aimed to develop a sectoral definition of culture and values the development sector would like to espouse.
  • Executed the launch of Oxfam's Global Staff Survey in July 2021, which intended to collect industry benchmarked data not only on staff engagement matters but also on diversity and inclusion across the confederation. I was in charge of communication and the survey managed to get responses from 56% of the 7,000+ Oxfam staff across the confederation.
  • In partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), facilitated a workshop on Culture at the Global CHS Conference held in May 2021 to bring together like-minded individuals who would like to support and learn from each other on culture change related topics.
  • Developed and lobbied to gain management and staff support to launch the first-ever Oxfam International Diversity Survey in January 2021 to understand diversity at Oxfam International Secretariat.
  • Following the black lives matter worldwide movement, led the culture team in conducting discussions on institutional racism that were attended by 300+ staff.
  • Lead a high performing team of DEI professionals and volunteers to deliver organization and program-wide actions that foster and advance a workplace of equity, inclusion and respect
