Project: Planning and Survey of 9 Informal Settlements in Kilifi County.

Settlements covered: Jiwe Leupe, Shingila, Dingwini, Shingila, Muyeye (M3A Phase II and M3), Tabora, Makaburini, Jakaba, Njoro Takatifu and Njoro ya Chini.

Roles:

  • Contributed to the organization and preparation of field missions to various informal settlements.
  • Carried out socio-economic surveys and physical mapping of the settlements.
  • Assisted in the surveying of plots and preparation of survey plans.
  • Assisted in the definition and implementation of various project outputs such as the research methodology review and the project reports.
  • Identification and preparation of base maps of the existing informal settlements.
  • Prepared research reports and provided relevant information to the various stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Contributed to the analysis of development planning projects, preparation of documents, presentations and other dissemination materials.
  • Successfully acted as a rapporteur in community workshops and Focus Group Discussions

Project :Inventory and Assessment of Open Public Spaces in Nairobi City, Kenya

This project was the first comprehensive baseline survey of public open spaces in Nairobi city, Kenya, and a pilot for measuring and reporting on SDG 11.7. It aimed to determine the quantity of public open spaces in the city, understand their spatial distribution, and to assess their quality.
My specific contribution cut across the whole process and included:

  • Digital data collection of the state of public spaces in Nairobi County using the Kobo Collect toolbox.
  • Inventory of Open Public Spaces in Nairobi.
  • Mapping of existing Open Public Spaces in Nairobi.
  • Collecting data based on the principles and typologies of public space.
  • Data analysis.
  • Summarized results by preparing written reports, graphs, fact sheets and tables.
