• Identified appropriate data layers on geographical features, human population densities, land boundaries, levels of biodiversity, land use change and socio-economic indicators such as gini-coefficient, poverty indices, sanitation provision, infrastructure provision and educational levels.
• Compiled geographic and demographic data to generate maps and graphs using ArcGIS and data collection equipment.
• Changed and improved use of GIS data for Land Use Planning & Remote Sensing projects.

This is a volunteer position. The following are my roles at Naipolitans:

• Engage prospective partners for collaboration on various urban initiatives in the city.
• Act as a rapporteur during urban dialogues
• Assist in managing Social Media Platforms and the Website for Naipolitans.
• Assist in the design Posters and Infographics for campaigns and events held.
• Engage urban planning students from the universities in the country to take part in urban planning initiatives in the city.
• Hold regular tweet chats on twitter to engage citizens on issues affecting Nairobi City, ranging from transportation, housing, green open spaces, etc.

This was a short consultancy position. My roles were as follows:

• Compiled geographic and demographic data to generate maps and graphs using ArcGIS and data collection equipment.
• Creation of base maps for the project area.
• Data collection and analysis of the project site.
• Digitization of site elements. (roads, powerlines, rivers, vegetation, etc.)
• Spatial design of the project site layout.

Project: Planning and Survey of 9 Informal Settlements in Kilifi County.

Settlements covered: Jiwe Leupe, Shingila, Dingwini, Shingila, Muyeye (M3A Phase II and M3), Tabora, Makaburini, Jakaba, Njoro Takatifu and Njoro ya Chini.

Roles:

• Contributed to the organization and preparation of field missions to various informal settlements.
• Carried out socio-economic surveys and physical mapping of the settlements.
• Assisted in the surveying of plots and preparation of survey plans.
• Assisted in the definition and implementation of various project outputs such as the research methodology review and the project reports.
• Identification and preparation of base maps of the existing informal settlements.
• Prepared research reports and provided relevant information to the various stakeholders, both internally and externally.
• Contributed to the analysis of development planning projects, preparation of documents, presentations and other dissemination materials.
• Successfully acted as a rapporteur in community workshops and Focus Group Discussions
• Successfully assisted in the preparation of Local Physical Development Plans for the respective informal settlements.

This project was a safety audit of residential neighbourhoods in Nairobi, in partnership with Safetipin New Delhi.

The following were my roles:

• Survey of safety in Nairobi’s residential neighbourhoods.
• Digital Mapping of safety in Nairobi’s residential neighbourhoods.
• Data analysis and data cleaning.

Project :Inventory and Assessment of Open Public Spaces in Nairobi City, Kenya

This project was the first comprehensive baseline survey of public open spaces in Nairobi city, Kenya, and a pilot for measuring and reporting on SDG 11.7. It aimed to determine the quantity of public open spaces in the city, understand their spatial distribution, and to assess their quality.
My specific contribution cut across the whole process and included:

• Digital data collection of the state of public spaces in Nairobi County using the Kobo Collect toolbox.
• Inventory of Open Public Spaces in Nairobi.
• Mapping of existing Open Public Spaces in Nairobi.
• Collecting data based on the principles and typologies of public space.
• Data analysis.
• Summarized results by preparing written reports, graphs, fact sheets and tables.
