County Experience

I participated in management of immunization commodities from Expanded program on Immunization Stores (EPI) like ordering, receiving, distributing vaccines and maintaining the cold chain.

I also participated in activities of the sub- county health management team including attending meetings regarding the sub-county.

I also had an opportunity to participate in activities of multidisciplinary with the probation officer vihiga county.

Vihiga Health Centre

I completed a period of 4weeks at vihiga health centre for my rural experience. I worked under a Senior Nursing officer and other Nursing officers who were quite instrumental in assuring I meet m objectives.

The Rural Experience included:

• Worked alongside experienced nursing professionals to learn new procedures.
• Administered close patient care, checked vital signs and monitored telemetry.
• Administered medications via oral, IV and intramuscular injections and monitored responses.
• Built rapport with patients and members of patients' support systems.
• promotion of health through school health programs, outreach services and sharing health messages on occupational health.
• managing integrated services like focused antenatal care, child welfare clinic, immunization, family planning and integrated management of childhood illness.
• management of the health unit by preparing and utilizing the work area and keeping and maintaining relevant records.
• Administration of vaccines while maintaining the cold chain.

Clinical Rotation in JOOTRH and KCH from2019-2022

I completed all my clinical rotation hours in both hospitals placements. The clinical placements included General Nursing Placements which comprised of;

• medical ward
• surgical ward
• pediatrics ward
• mental/ Psychiatry ward
• midwifery placements comprising of antenatal clinic, labour ward, postnatal ward and newborn community health placements involved rural and county experiences.

Key Responsibilities included;

• providing total care plan as stated in the patients care plan.
• Administer patients medication as per treatment sheet.
• perform assessments and preparing patients for medical or surgical procedures.
• complete documentation under appropriate nursing supervision.
• Assisted patients with personal hygiene requirements and monitored conditions to update nursing staff.
• Delivered exceptional care to patients by helping with mobility and daily living requirements.
• Cared for each patient according to care plan and physicians' instructions.
• Monitored each patient to meet appropriate care and document status changes.
