Lenny Kamau Gitundu, H.S.C. (MD, MMed.Surg) is a dedicated and seasoned medical doctor with over a decade of experience in clinical practice, public health, and health systems strengthening. His focus on global health security emphasizes improving health systems, disease surveillance, and emergency preparedness and response. Currently serving as the Africa CDC's National Coordinator in Rwanda, Dr. Kamau spearheads efforts to establish a robust public health ecosystem, championing Africa CDC's strategic plan and advocating for the operationalisation of the new public health order. Dr. Kamau's vision lies in strengthening healthcare systems to withstand crises, fostering collaboration across diverse sectors, and investing in public health initiatives. Known for strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, he works closely with ministries of health, national public health institutes, and strategic regional partners like WHO, UNICEF, IFRC, AMREF health Africa and Civil Society Organizations to address complex health challenges in the region.
As a key member of the Country Engagement Team at the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Center, I provide technical assistance, collaboration, and coordination to the Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Biomedical Center, implementing partners, and other stakeholders for the implementation of activities supported by the Africa CDC.
In this role, I work closely with the Africa CDC's Eastern regional director to ensure the optimal positioning of the Africa CDC mandate in safeguarding Africa's health security by effectively articulating and executing Africa CDC's strategic plan within the country.
