  • Relate and function effectively with applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, appropriate administrative officials, the healthcare community, and the patient population served, and providers of formal agreements, when required;
  • Ensure that there are appropriate numbers of staff with the required education, training and competence to provide medical laboratory services that meet the needs and requirements of the users;
  • Ensure the implementation of the quality policy;
  • Implement a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good practice and applicable requirements;
  • Serves as a contributing member of the medical staff

  • Collects, label, register and analyse samples, and refer tests as appropriate to approved external laboratories
  • Perform tests as requested by the medical personnel, record and report results in a timely fashion, alert Physicians and Clinicians about any abnormal results and discusses such results when called upon

  • The Laboratory Technologist will ensure that RAs and YRT collect, transport and store hair samples according to the study SOP
  • The Laboratory Technologist will ensure all time availability of hair sample collection materials for RAs and YRT to use
  • The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for tracking hair samples from collection, transportation, storage (at field offices and Kisumu lab) and shipment to UCSF using appropriate tracking logs as per the study SOP
  • The Laboratory Technologist will respond to queries and concerns, raised by study Investigators and study coordinator about hair samples
  • The Laboratory Technologist will document the sample transport on the Sample Transport log and accompany it with samples to central laboratory in Kisumu
  • He will also attach the hard copy Field Office Sample Tracking Log to the samples for verification by the receiving laboratory technologist in Kisumu
  • The Laboratory Technologist will ensure that all samples are shipped safely to UCSF at the end of data collection
