25 Microwave Transmission Links Project (Safaricom) Surveying

Surveying

I checked the readiness of sites in preparation for the installation of Aviat Multiband, WTM 4200, and WTM 4500XT devices. Some of the tasks involved include:
1. Ensuring that the racks have enough space for the CTR 8740 routers for the WTM 4200 and WTM 4500 setups.
2. Checking whether the tower had enough space for the antenna and noting down the heights for planning purposes.
3. Ensuring that the site had enough power supply and circuit breakers for the Aviat devices.

Installation and Commissioning

1. I installed and commissioned Aviat Microwave Transmission devices, specifically the WTM 4200, WTM 4500XT, and WTM 4800. I was able to automate scripting of the configurations which led to the project closing timely.
2. I led a team of engineers to deliver the multiband WTM4800 project, I collaborated with Safaricom BO team to ensure links are visible on NMS(PV+) and integrated.
3. I implemented the DCN plans for the established microwave links for the WTM 4200, WTM 4500XT, and the multiband links.
4. Assisted the project manager in updating Safaricom on the project's progress by regularly updating the weekly reports.
5. Quality assurance on newly installed microwave links, highlighted several snags not in line with Aviat quality standards. Collaborated with the sub-contractors and implemented a golden site to set as a reference.

Traffic Cutover

I conducted traffic cutover for the following links:

1. Ololoolo – Ololamutiek link – 8+0 STR WTM 4500XT installation.
2. Siana – Ilkerin link – WTM 4200 installation.
3. Siana – Ololamutiek link – WTM 4200 installation.
4. Several multiband links. To mention a few, Ainamoi – Kapsoit link and Ntulelei – Nairiagi_Enkare link.

Turkana Backbone Restoration Project (Safaricom)

  • Performed remote troubleshooting and onsite restoration for Safaricom's Backbone routes.
  • Improved resilience of Aviat microwave nodes by rolling out Aviat PPP surge arrestor on all WTM product lines on the Safaricom network , this reduced equipment failures due to surge by 95%.
