Responsibilities

• Coordinates health care institutions, organizations, and resources to ensure compliance with health codes and safety practices

• Pioneered the interagency collaboration model that has established the missing link between primary care and public/environmental health, ensuring continuity of care and comprehensive access to resources

Responsibilities

• Planned, conducted, and completed epidemiological investigations under supervision of the PI and research staff across diverse public health organizations, both locally and internationally
• Assisted with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals, and in preparation of PowerPoint slides and posters for presentation
• Established and tracked project plans, timelines, and milestones of assigned activities and tasks
• Established, documented, and shared repeatable and scalable program management processes and procedures for research programs
• Provided instruction, preparation assistance, and support related to grant application procedures, including writing and developing grant proposals, and support of other research activities as needed

Responsibilities

• Coordinated all environmental health activities, programs and projects in Kasarani Sub-County, a constituent of Nairobi County
• Supervised and managed the actions of six environmental health officers and eight environmental health technicians working within the Sub-County
• Provided training and technical assistance to all the staff and members of the community
• Oversaw and supported the investigation of all enteric, zoonotic and viral disease outbreaks in the district
• Lobbied government institutions, the private sector and the business community to support the formulation of public health policies
• Monitored and evaluated the performance of the current policies to ascertain the scope of their effectiveness
• Reviewed policy documents, reports and performance indicators prior to dissemination

Achievements

• Introduced a biannual round-table forum between the Public Health Department and stakeholders in the Sub-County to assess the performance of policies, as well as identify existing gaps in service delivery
• Justified and secured additional funding for training staff to enhance professional competencies and proficiency in incident reporting using information technologies

Responsibilities

• Promoted and enforced the Public Health Act and other legislation through regular inspection of premises, workplaces and built areas
• Supported the implementation of health education programs by working with hospitals, schools, churches and community leaders
• Investigated cases of non-compliance and appeared in court as an expert witness in ongoing litigation
• Investigated environmental pollution report and other public health nuisances
• Assisted in the management of domestic wastewater systems, hazardous wastes, solid waste management systems and recycling services
• Prepared Council reports and policy documents, and implemented Council resolutions

Achievements

• Completed 45 establishment investigations as a team member and individually, which exceeded the Council’s 30 inspections annually
• Collectively developed core understanding of the interrelationship between environmental services and health services to prevent duplication of duties
• Supported the Council’s ‘Clean City’ initiative by facilitating the formation of youth groups to collect and manage wastes efficiently
