Kenya Red Cross Society operates an Organizational Development department whose main role is ensuring strong branch networks, improved governance, strengthen youth programs, streamline membership and volunteer management

Among my roles as the County Coordinator in the department includes:

  • Coordinate development, implementation of annual plan and budget under direction of Branch Committee,
  • Coordinate dissemination of KRCS Volunteer and youth policy and guidelines outlining their recruitment and selection, deployment, training in order to achieve self-sustaining network of volunteers,
  • Develop and periodically update database information system to ensure that all records and statistics pertaining to youth,
  • Volunteers and members are properly classified and maintained for rapid access and retrieval,
  • Coordinate risks mapping and vulnerability capacity assessment activities to plan prepare, respond and mitigate disaster impacts, Coordinate implementation of disaster management programs to effectively respond to natural and manmade disasters,
  • In consultation with County and HQs effective resource mobilization strategies, prepare and submit funding proposals according to donor requirements to supplement local budget allocations,

Project Officer - Cash Transfer Programing

Kenya Red Cross Society with funding from Danish Red Cross/ECHO initiated a Water and Sanitation and cash transfer project with the aim of improving the hygiene and sanitation standards for the Pastoralist Community in Isiolo County and Samburu East Sub County as well as assisting those affected by the 2017 drought situation

Among my roles as the project officer include:

  • Planning, Coordinating and monitoring re-energization of 37 villages within Isiolo County and Samburu sub county with an aim of helping the achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) Status using the community led total sanitation approach (CLTS),
  • Mobilizing and sensitizing target communities on hygiene and sanitation through the community health Volunteers as well as advocating for construction of family latrines for families living in the target villages,
  • Targeting, Validation and Coordination of cash transfer program for 3800 households within Isiolo county, Supporting and coordinating Water and Sanitation drought responses initiatives in upper eastern region, Including the Software and Hardware bits,
  • Make an inventory and be the custodian of all project assets, Conducting monitoring and evaluation on the project's progress, security situation, community needs and making presentations on the same as well as writing regular monthly and quarterly narrative reports to the donors.

Kenya Red Cross Society with funding from UNICEF initiated an emergency WASH project with aim of improving the water, hygiene and sanitation standards for the victims of the June 2014 Mpeketoni terror attack in Lamu County


Among my roles as the project officer include:

  • Planning, Coordinating and supervising the construction of institutional latrines for four beneficiary schools in Mpeketoni and Witu, Mobilizing and sensitizing the target communities on hygiene and sanitation as well as construction of 80 shared family latrines for families living in a camp set up,
  • Triggering of 8 villages and monitoring progress and process of achieving open defecation free status,
  • Construction of two water systems including a 2.5KM pipeline extension and rehabilitation of two shallow wells,
  • Make an inventory and be the custodian of all project assets,
  • Conducting monitoring and evaluation on the project's progress, security situation, community needs and making presentations on the same as well as writing regular monthly and quarterly narrative reports to the donors.

  • Kenya Red Cross Society in partnership with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with funding from Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) initiated a project focusing on pastoralists dubbed 'SDC Water for Livestock' with the aim of improving livelihood and resilience against drought for targeted communities in Isiolo County
  • Among my roles as the Assistant project officer included: Planning, Coordinating and supervising the construction of 2 subsurface dams and shallow wells within Garbatulla District through Cash for Work approach, Mobilizing and sensitizing the target communities and establishing two community committees to assist in recruitment of Cash for Work laborers as well as assisting in supervision of the work, Make an inventory and be the custodian of all project assets, Do monitoring and evaluation on the project's progress and make presentations on the same as well as writing regular monthly and quarterly narrative reports to the donors.

  • Kenya Red Cross Society initiated an emergency health care project that was co-funded by the European Commission of Humanitarian Aid with an aim of reducing morbidity and mortality rates in drought affected areas within Isiolo, supporting basic health care facilities and referral systems as well as enhancing the local capacities through support of KRCS volunteers and household levels
  • Among my roles as the project officer included:
  • Supervision of hygiene promotions in schools through SHEPP trainings and interschool competitions as well as Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in schools in target areas,
  • Establishment of three community units to ensure the realization of the community strategy as laid out by the government of Kenya,
  • Building community partnerships and capacity of KRCS volunteers, Community Health workers,
  • Community Health Committees and Community Health Extension works to spear head the sensitization of the community on health,
  • hygiene and sanitation matters, Develop and Implement Primary Health Care interventions including immunization campaigns and mobile medical outreaches as well as undertaking joint planning and implementation with other health agencies at all levels.
  • Established effective relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally for increased collaboration opportunities.
