Involvement:

• Assisted in developing cost estimates by collecting data on project materials for tender preparation.
• Assisted with inspections of construction sites to ensure that projects were executed according to the design specifications for trench excavation and HDPE pipe installation at Wietaithie in Thika.

Experienced attained:

• Got insights on the requirements needed to prepare Tender documents for project bid.
• Learnt how on-site challenges are dealt with such as working with unpredictable terrain whose underground water reserve is close to ground surface during excavation.

PROJECT:

RUIRU-JUJA GREATER GITHURAI WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM -NST-WSDP, PHASE 1: CONTRACT NO. AWSB/KFW/NST/W/01/2018

Involvement:

• Overseeing the construction of concrete water drainage reinforcements preventing future fresh water contamination.
• Overseeing the trench excavation, pipe laying and butt fusion for 560mm HDPE pipes.
• Chainages recording for trench excavation works.
• Overseeing the connection of distribution pipes to households in Githurai, Nairobi.
• Traffic control within the congested road section due to ongoing Githurai area site excavation works.

Experience attained:

• Privileged to learn and work with butt fusion machine in joining consecutive 12-m HDPE pipes.
• Learnt site safety procedures working under a Safety Officer aiding in public safety with activities such as setting up warning signs and enclosing danger pits with warning tapes for public safety.
• Opportunity to work in a out of the ordinary field situation by being in a congested area with limited working space.
• Plumbing works under the plumbers team working on consumer connection in preparation for fresh water supply. Tapping consumer lines to the main distributor lines by clamping method.

PROJECT:

RUIRU-JUJA GREATER GITHURAI WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM -NST-WSDP, PHASE 1: CONTRACT NO. AWSB/KFW/NST/W/01/2018

Involvement:

• Involved in survey work under the survey team taking survey points with RTK machine and booking of survey data.
• Safety control ensuring excavated sections are boldly marked with warning tape preventing accidents.
• Assisting in the oversight of bedded trenches and confirming Reduced Levels for pipe laying.

Experience attained:

• Survey knowledge in the operation of the Dumpy level and taking reference points using RTK machine.
• Working with sensitive high pressure resistant Glass Resistant Plastic (GRP) pipes thus keenness in trench excavation, compaction and pipe laying.
