Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Internal Audit’s strategy by applying insights from the Group Internal Audit /Business Unit strategy and operating model, products, services, client-base and competitive environment, industry and wider developments, regulatory environment, business developments and changes, operations, risk management practices and global assurance practices.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior management across business, functional and risk management areas to enable internal audit strategy and achievement of objectives.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders across the audit portfolio to share and leverage risk management practices, tools, and capabilities, and drive an aligned and integrated approach to assurance and risk management.

Key Assignments and Risk Coverage

  • Global Markets, Finance, Treasury and Capital Management Audits – Conducted reviews in both Kenya and Eswatini focusing on management of financial risks (Market and Liquidity), incorporating local regulations and Basel III requirements of capital management. In addition, conducted internal financial control reviews focusing on accounting and financial reporting risks at balance sheet and income statement levels.
  • Governance, Compliance and Risk Management Reviews – Completed audits with focus on good corporate governance, regulatory compliance and application of controls to prevent financial crime, fraud, anti money laundering and financing of terrorism risks.
  • Credit Risk – Provided assurance in credit risk across four markets (Kenya, Tanzania, Eswatini,Bostwana). Risk coverage include key credit processes (origination, evaluation, collateral, account management, recovery and rehabilitation) for credit products in different client categories. Credit products include; term loans, mortgages, unsecured lending, trade finance (guarantees, and letters of credit).
  • Payments and Operation Audits – Executed payments audits in five markets (Kenya, Eswatini, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda). Payments coverage focused on operational risks including; cyber, transaction processing, information, fraud and financial crime. The scope of coverage included; digital payments and platforms as well as physical distribution channels. Other operational audits include procurement and vendor management, stoke brokerage and insurance agency operations.
