My over twenty-year history of managing top-performing art and design faculty has produced industry renowned graduates.
My journey from a high school art and design teacher through lecturing in design to the position of Principal has given me foundation and wealth of experience for the role of Principal in an art and design institution. My broad scope of and dynamism in education administration has provided me with expertise in curriculum planning and development.
As a professional educator in art and design, i give instruction with superior communication and team-building abilities.
Interaction with many art and design industry players helps me understand the place for technology integration and importance of internship programmes. The end result are technologically savvy and dedicated educational systems and ultimately employment/entrepreneurship ready graduates.
· Day to day administration of the college,
· Ensuring all necessary learning and teaching resources are available on time and the best condition,
· Liaising with the director on the institute’s infrastructural and personnel development,
· Collaborating with parents /guardians/sponsors to ensure wholistic growth and betterment of the students extra-curricular and curricular excellence,
· Mediating with stakeholders to uplift the profile of BIFA within the art and design industry and in the public’s view,
· Collaborating with players in the art and design industry to sustain immediate job placement of all BIFA graduates,
· Working closely with the director and head of finance and administration to create and sustain the best working and learning environment for both BIFA staff and students,
· Ensuring all members of staff exercise high levels of professionalism, integrity and ethics in executing their duties,
· Giving the necessary support to all student’s activities as per policy guidelines to nurture their holistic growth by realizing their full potential academically and extra-curricular,
· Enforcing Ministry of Education policies and resolutions passed by the Management Board and
· Liaising with the head of finance and administration to identify relevant motivational talks, team building activities or capacity building programmes for the staff.
· Assisting and deputizing the principal in the day to day running of the institute,
· Overseeing adherence to and implementation of the academic curricula in place in all departments,
· With the assistance of departmental heads, ensuring uttermost delivery by all staff in execution of the duties,
· As Exams Officer;
- Supervised the setting, moderation and administration of exams
- Supervised the marking, checking, recording of results, moderation of results and release of results
- Coordinated the registration of candidates for national examinations
- Was the liaison with eternal examination bodies and the internal academic board.
· As the chairman of the timetabling committee, ensuring lesson and studio allocations are appropriately done,
· Ensuring students’ discipline and chairing disciplinary meetings,
Allocating weekly duties to lecturers for purposes of closer monitoring and recording of institute activities
i) In 1998: I was immediately given the finalist class (third-years) teaching among other units : Advertising, Packaging, Typography, Publications, Graphic Reproduction, and Visual Communication.
ii) 2000: Was appointed Head of Department (Graphic Design) and my responsibilities included:
· Ensure curriculum implementation and syllabus coverage by all lecturers in the department,
· Address students concerns as relates to the graphic design course,
· Liaise with the departmental lecturers in organizing educational trips,
· Organizing practical project-briefs moderation meetings,
Communicate students' performance and progress to parent / guardian during meeting organized annually.
i) In 1996, i was the only art teacher and therefore taught art and design from form I –IV
ii) In 1997, there being two assistants, I was appointed subject head and would liaise with head of department to ensure schemes of work are submitted on time and that the syllabus is covered
iii) Prepare subject materials requisitions and at times make purchases of the same.
vi) In 1996 the school was awarded a certificate for the Best School in Art and Design in Thika District, Central Province, Kenya.
