Responsibilities:

• Preparation of daily and monthly ward reports for analysis by the Head Nurse.

• Stock management, ward stock orders and management of stock variances.
• Through interdepartmental coordination with maintenance, I ensure that medical equipment are functioning well and efficiently for proper patient care and reduction of accidents.
• Setting up and managing the isolation department and response team in the hospital.
• Ensuring availability of all PPEs and proper procedures are followed by all staff in donning and doffing.
• Coordination with the public health offices upon discharge of patients and in mortality cases.
• Continuous staff motivation and education at the departmental level.
• Mentoring students and other nurses to bring out the best of their abilities in nursing as they care for the patients.
• Also take part in nurse covering duties where I handle administrative concerns in the hospitals in the absence of the Head Nurse and the Medical director.
• Through departmental coordination, I ensure that all prescribed medications are available in the pharmacy and escalation is made promptly where the medication is out of stock.
• Planning for leave days and public holidays for the nurses in my unit.

• Ensuring that all clinical indicators are filled appropriately for submission and monthly analysis by the Head nurse.

• Proper and timely triaging of patients through the use of the South African triage system.
• Handling of resuscitations and emergencies like heart attacks.
• Took part in handling mass casualties in instances of major road accidents and fires.
• Conduction reading of ECGs and ensuring proper attention is given to at risk patients with myocardial infarctions and ventricular fibrillations.
• Preparation of patient for Emergency surgical interventions especially those with head injuries, ectopic pregnancies etc.
