GM: Human Resources, Operations and Fleet Dept.

Leadway Enterprises Limited
Nairobi

Human Resources Department

  • I formulated new and merged existing departments and developed clear job descriptions, for all technical and Managerial positions. This enabled the organization to retain only the required personnel and enriched the job descriptions.
  • I conducted detailed back ground checks on all documents provided by new job applicants using resources and authorities known to me. This enable the shortlisting of applicants to zero in on only those qualified as per the company's job description.
  • I personally kept all employee records and eventually championed the digitization of the records.
  • I chaired the new employee recruitment committee and conducted job interviews, recruited and structured the training programs for new employees.
  • I structured the disciplinary procedures for all staff in the organization in line with the relevant Laws and The Constitution of The Republic of Kenya. These procedures I implemented include the levels of warning (Verbal and written), suspension, reinstatement and dismissal of unruly employees.
  • I conducted oversight responsibilities on all payroll functions. These include statutory deductions and remittances including N.S.S.F, P.A.Y.E, N.H.I.F, SACCO deductions and overall approval of the payroll.
  • I Performed oversight on daily employee's attendance register, periodic leave schedules, overtime schedules and leave compensation records where necessary.

Operations and Fleet Management Department

  • I conducted an assessment of the assets (Vehicles) required for the nature of work, depending on client preferences, road terrains, company objectives and I proposed a gradual fleet refreshing, which was achieved in three years.
  • I restructured the Fleet Department by overhauling and realigning the departments protocols, including the pre-inspection of warn out parts (including Car batteries, Tyres, safety equipment among others) procurement of the spare part, introduced digital record keeping for all motor vehicle maintenance, opened a fully operational, company owned service centre with mechanics and supporting staff.
  • I Formulated the Insurance and Accident reporting procedures.
  • I digitized the records for all Motor vehicles' licenses, permits and also ensured the validity of all Drivers' licenses and their other documents.
  • I recommended to the board the timely disposal of worn out Motor vehicles and thereby kept a modern fleet.
  • I introduced the Phonetic Alphabet. This eased the communication between our round the clock manned base station and our drivers. This particular introduction significantly enhanced overall service delivery and reduced accidents while cutting telephony costs.

General Manager

  • I Coordinated all organization functions and departments and reported to the CEO. I also sat on the Board of Directors.
  • I introduced Corporate Car Hire solutions on both chauffeured and self drive services. This was targeted specifically to government departments in the Energy Sector. This new avenue increased our overall revenues by 30% and increased our fleet size by 45%. This also had the company commence operations in other towns outside Nairobi, with a fully operational office set up in Shanzu, Mombasa and Nakuru County.
  • I was responsible for all tendering processes including tender filling, document preparation and timely presentation, and submission. With a success rate of over 70% of all applications submitted, the follow up, commencement and client satisfaction was my responsibility.
  • I oversaw the creation and implementation of the Customer Relations Department with its Manager and supporting staff. I introduced this department to enable a daily reporting of all clients' satisfaction levels and for prompt response to complaints. I am fully awake to the deep knowledge that client acquisition is the easy part, retention of the clients can make or break an organization, with low probability of recovery.
  • I represented the Company in all meetings at relevant institutions or forums, for instance at the Corporate Cab Association, Cab Owners Association, Labour Courts, Competition Authority of Kenya, and during clients contract renewal negotiations and all other as assigned by the Board of Directors.
