Major achievements

  • As pioneer Ag CEO for SEZA I engaged KRA and The National Treasury through the parent Ministry of Industrialization and this resulted in Gazettment of Customs Guidelines for Appointment/Operating Special Economic Zones in Dec. 2021 which unlocked the roll out of the SEZ program in Kenya.
  • Under my stewardship as Ag CEO SEZA, there was Increase of Gazetted SEZs from 3 in June 2019 to 22 Zones and investment levels by both SEZ Developers and SEZ Enterprises hit USD 1,477,060,076 in 2022.
  • Under my Stewardship as Ag CEO SEZA, we developed HR Tools and Salary Structure for the Authority which were approved by SCAC and SRC respectively. We also developed Operating Procedure Manuals and Guidelines.
  • As Regional Manager EPZA Coast, I spearheaded growth of the EPZ program from 2 Zones in 1998 to 37 Zones in 2016. Employment in 1998 stood at 1,500 and grew to 25,000 by 2016.
  • I negotiated Green Channel for EPZ imports and Exports at Kenya Ports Authority Mombasa for seamless logistics.
  • I Engaged Kwale County Council and Samburu South Group Ranch for Donation of Land to EPZA while working as Regional Manager Coast. The Community donated 200 acres for development of EPZ Industrial Park.
  • As EPZA General Manager-Operations, I engaged Commissioner of Customs due to unfriendly working Hours at Athi River EPZ where Custom Officers were working from 8.00am to 5.00pm. As a result, in January 2017, Custom officers started working from 8.00am to Midnight every day as well as Weekends and Public Holidays. This arrangement greatly facilitated import and export business at Athi River EPZ.
