Histopathology:

• Sign out of 300- 350 surgical pathology cases a month as a senior resident using an electronic health records system
• Examination and interpretation of immunohistochemistry slides stained both manually and using automated systems
• Examination of special stains and rendering of diagnoses including but not limited to Methenamine silver, Masson trichrome, Reticulin, PAS, Grocott, Giemsa and Ziehl Nelsen stains
• Review of an average of 10 second opinion histopathology cases a week
• Gross examination and sampling of simple to complex surgical pathology specimens
• Performance of relook gross specimens as required
• Weekly attendance and presentations at multidisciplinary meetings with a special focus on breast, genitourinary and general pathology

Cytopathology:

• Sign out of an average of 15 gynecological smears daily
• Sign out of a median of 30 cases a week for non- gynecological cytology smears
• Participate in as well as attend the weekly teaching of junior colleagues on specimen collection, processing and interpretation of cytopathology cases

Forensic pathology:

• Provision of timely and team- oriented autopsy services as well as histopathological evaluation of collected samples as needed

Other roles :

• Completed a dissertation on breast pathology titled: 'ARID1A and CD14 expression in triple negative and estrogen receptor positive breast cancer among Kenyan women- a validation study.' Efforts at publication of this manuscript are underway
• Participation in weekly teaching through morphology sessions, departmental teaching and case presentations and mentorship of incoming junior colleagues
• Resident team monthly roster scheduling in my second year of training
• Service as the Anatomic pathology residents' treasurer and convener in matters of social importance during part of my third and fourth year of training

• Responsibilities included performance of general clerkship of both pediatric and adult outpatient clients
• Requisition and interpretation of laboratory tests and imaging services as required from case to case
• Formulation and issuance of prescriptions
• Performance of surgical procedures including but not limited to incision and drainage, stabilization of fractures through application of casts and retrieval of foreign bodies
• Management of adult and pediatric emergencies with excellent experience in cardiac emergencies in adults and shock in the pediatric population
• Participation in the weekly continuous medical education through the British Medical Journal (BMJ)
• Participation in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities as required including community sensitization on relevant medical topics
• Mentorship of new colleagues

• Admission of critical care patients to the High Dependence or Intensive Care units
• Formulation of a problem list and plan of treatment in consultation with the attending for each patient
• Performance of procedures in the critical care department including resuscitation procedures, securing the airway, insertion of arterial lines, central venous access, drawing samples for blood gas analysis among others
• Preparing for and presenting patients at the daily morning and exit rounds
• Organizing for and taking part in family meetings for critically ill patients
• Participation and attendance at the monthly morbidity and mortality meetings

• General clerkship in Pediatrics, Obstetrics and gynecology, General surgery and internal medicine departments
• A special critical care unit rotation was undertaken in the critical care unit including application of ACLS and BLS, interpretation of ECGs and blood gas analysis
• Formulation of a plan of action for every patient in consultation with the supervising attending
• Initiation and interpretation of primary and advanced investigations including hematological, biochemical, microbiological and diagnostic imaging investigations such as point of care ultrasound, ECGs and CT scans
• Performance of patient pre-operative evaluation, performance of uncomplicated surgical procedures under supervision including incision and drainage, debridements and Caesarean sections, assisting in Orthopedic procedures
• Participate in ward rounds through presentation of patients, documentation of the plan of action and following through with interdepartmental consults
• Provision of professional and academic guidance to junior members of the junior medical team
