  • Maintain minimum attendance of 75% at weekly educational seminars/meetings: dissertation clinic, journal club, tumor board case discussions, mortality and morbidity meetings and grand rounds.
  • Patient care: taking targeted and appropriate history and doing proper physical examination and making diagnoses to determine need for surgery.
  • Attend ward rounds and do ward work.
  • Admit and discharge patients efficiently.
  • See emergency room and in-hospital consults and formulate patient management plan.
  • Evaluate and admit critically ill patients within the thoracic and cardiovascular unit to the unit ICU as need arises.

  • Evaluation of patients in the surgical outpatient clinics with knowledge of appropriate differential diagnoses plus outpatient postoperative follow-up.
  • To be proficient in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course.
  • Be well-versed in basic surgical skills.
  • Assist senior residents and attending surgeons in the operating room to perform technical surgical procedures.
  • Independently carry out surgical and diagnostic procedures without supervision as approved by senior/attending staff. This must also be discussed exhaustively prior to initiation.
  • Preparation of case summaries, presentation and active participation in monthly morbidity and mortality meetings; oesophageal cancer and cardiac surgery multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Active participation in outreach programs organised by various foundations/organisations in collaboration with the university and the hospital.
  • Mentor and teach junior residents, medical officers, medical officer interns and medical students in my department.
