Directing all MEL activities for the organization to effectively measure outputs, outcomes and impact for the at least 10,000 new beneficiaries enrolled in the programs annually across East Africa: this is achieved by leading the organizations’ Program, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning design and provide oversight on the quality of impact for activities implemented in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania) and coordination of the AAF - USA monitoring, evaluation learning events and provide, oversight for all Country Directors and teams on annual work plan development, quality for strategic plan and program implementation, fundraising and partnership/consortium development.

Key achievements

Program Design, Implementation and Team Leadership: I lead the design for multi-year programs by ensuring clarity in the design of the Theory of Change, program outputs and outcomes, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning processes and tools (MEL Plan), provide supervision to countries on implementation progress and quality (progress monitoring and impact measurement) and ensure quality implementation of MEL policies and procedures for quality data evidence and documentation of results.

Strategic planning process, implementation and impact analysis: Led the review, development and synthesis of data for the 2021-2025 strategic planning process, which involved a review of the 2015-2020 strategy and documenting impact as well as lessons from the previous implementation to guide the strategy. I currently guide the country teams to design annual work plans and targets as aligned to the new strategic plan.

Evaluation, Research and development: I continuously lead the Evaluation of programs by guiding the contracting and supervision for external evaluators and lead the review and validation of evaluation reports both internally and externally. I lead the research design and supervision for researchers (externally mainly international students and universities) and use the findings to generate lessons that can inform on program improvements and development in the organization. I provide a synthesis of learning documents from the research to be disseminated through stakeholder forums, social media and international conferences (mainly USA).

Resource mobilization: I support fundraising and partnership (including consortium) development for the organization by developing and designing the Theory of Change (problem tree and solution tree analysis methods) and the results indicators for proposals and concept notes. Between 2020 -2021 I have supported to raise up to $480k in the US.

Innovation in data collection and management: I have successfully supported the data collection process by designing new mobile data collection tools (Kobo Collect and USSD codes) and data management in Salesforce

Impact tracking and measurement: Provide technical leadership to capture and communicate program results through annual impact reports, as well as ensure high-quality, timely, valid, and verifiable data collection, reporting and analysis.

The other broader roles and duties for this position includes:

Design MEL policies and training modules for the organization and ensures adherence to the guidelines

Develop all program and evaluation reports, conduct data analysis (both qualitative and quantitative data) and share recommendation and methods for adapting the lessons learnt and recommendation to improve existing and the design of new programs

Provide leadership and coordination for the East Africa program teams (45 staff) and guidance including training to 10 global staff on performance monitoring across all operational components of the programs.

Ensure that all required reports and documentation for the project’s internal management systems and for external donor reporting are produced.

Lead the development and participation in international learning conferences (annual CIES, USAID-Youth Power Learning etc.) and advocacy forums with government and stakeholders

Regularly review and update the project’s M&E plan and country Annual work plans and KPIs

Lead efforts to develop and implement an effective knowledge management system to ensure lessons and best practices are incorporated into ongoing interventions and innovative approaches. Using a CLA framework, ensures that lessons learned, and best practices are captured, synthesized, reported, and disseminated

2018 Present: Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI): Regional Learning Education Initiative (RELI) is an initiative that promotes peer learning collaborative network of organizations to improve learning outcomes in East Africa. The goal is to empower its members to become effective, influential organizations through peer-to-peer collaborations and learning, and joint policy engagement. I support with the MEL and Research activities in the RELI thematic groups. I also convene online discussions, meetings and synthesize learning documents for RELI MEL Champions under the leadership of RELI MEL Advisor.

2020- Present: USAID Youth Power Learning & Evaluation (YPL): Promotes generation and dissemination of knowledge to accelerate youth participation to contribute to the broader development outcomes. Participation in the network is to support USAID’s outcomes in youth development, build capacity of implementors on the Youth Development Monitoring tools to generate evidence and promote organizational adaptation of positive youth indicators, build stronger research to build the evidence base for positive youth development.

2020 present: Comparative and International Education Society (CIES): Fostering cross-cultural understanding and scholarship by promoting research in international education, foster application of comparative theories and research in applied setting and dissemination of knowledge.

2020 - present: Dignified Storytelling | Local Stories that empower, improve and transform - Create an ecosystem that instill dignity and respect in storytelling within development and humanitarian contexts.

Accomplishments

In addition to the proposal and concept notes development, I participate in both quarterly and annual fundraising events in the United States of America (USA). In September - October 2021 I travelled to the USA and was able to raise USD158k through events, corporates and family foundations.
