As the Treasurer of the East Africa business my role encompasses treasury management practices that optimize the funds and banking facilities available to support the business operations with minimal interruptions while keeping financing costs at the lowest.

Working as a monetary management consultant, I collaborated with established consulting firms including ICMD Consultants, MUK and Associates, Grand Afrique Consulting and Clench Business Systems in providing business advisory, accounting, and audit services to various clients in the private and public sector. Below are four project engagements delivered during the period.

• Adjusted financial management system to be accurate and productive.
• Offered budget development and financial planning to clients.
• Kenya Association of Manufacturers – developing a revised financial policies and procedures manual.
• Agriculture and Food Authority – internal controls review and training of the internal audit team on use of teammate.
• Ministry of Health - training on resource mobilization for selected Counties Health Officials.
• Global Fund Kenya - aid programming and fiduciary assurance/monitoring specifically in budget and expenditure assurance.
• Provision of financial advisory services to clients to improve the internal controls framework, assess and manage risks identified, ensure efficient utilization of company resources, and maximize shareholders returns on investment.
• Conduct internal audit engagements to identify areas requiring improvement to enhance the internal control environment.

Provided leadership and direction to the finance department staff (16). Provide the EX-CO monthly financial reports on performance vs budget and key performance metrics. Preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts Oversee internal and statutory compliance. Further, I maintained relationships with bankers, key suppliers, KRA, county government and auditors. Approval of key journals and payments vouchers.

• Collaborated with executive team in preparation of annual capital and operating budgets, forecasts and all financial reporting and analysis.
• Review budget vs actual reports with the departmental heads which resulted in increased use of reports identification and resolution of variances as well as coordinate any revisions to the existing plans.
• Prepared accurate financial reports and monthly statements for accounts receivable.
• Planned budgets, authorized expenditures, monitored accounting processes, established service rates and coordinated financial reporting to oversee all fiscal procedures.
• Optimized bank balances by investing excess funds in short term deposits generating financial income of – KES 18 million in first half of 2017 (KES 13 million in 2016).

• Key audit engagements included BAT Kenya Ltd, Chevron Kenya (prior to acquisition by Total Energies), Kenol Kobil (now Rubis Kenya Ltd), Kenya Shell Ltd, Haggar Group (Sudan), CRB Africa Limited, Freight Forwarders Kenya Ltd and IPS Kenya Ltd.
• Developed new sales opportunities through the development and rollout of promotional plans.
