Dr. Andrew Khakula is a holder of a Doctor of Law Degree (LL.D) and a legal scholar of repute. He is a highly knowledgeable, experienced and skilled legal professional who has had a successful career as an astute litigation counsel, a consummate academic and an accomplished researcher of high repute. Dr Andrew Khakula’s career spans over 17 years of exciting career progression with tremendous accomplishments both in practice, teaching, management and leadership. As a practising advocate of the High Court of Kenya for 17 years, I have gained invaluable experience, exposure and understanding of the dynamics of defending and representing a diverse category of clients in courts, intense interaction with all branches of the law at different levels of courts and in different parts of Kenya. This experience has enriched my perspectives in facilitating the defence of the Constitution and laws of Kenya and facilitated increased access to justice for all. As an academic, I continue to share my legal knowledge and mentor young legal professionals at the university. I have also presented papers on complex legal topics in different fora. Over time, I have undertaken research on pertinent legal, leadership and management topics thus contributing to jurisprudence and knowledge sharing in the legal sector. Dr. Khakula has been entrusted with leadership and management responsibilities both within and without the profession. These include; served as Chairperson of the Centre for International and Development Law at Mount Kenya University, Managing Partner and founder at ABK Advocates LLP, where I have provided Strategic Leadership driving the firm’s growth and profitability through strategic planning, business development, and team management and as Head of Litigation at Directline Assurance Ltd. Dr. Khakula is an accomplished and exceptional academic and possesses in-depth knowledge in legal, management and leadership areas. He holds a Doctorate in Law ( 2018 – 2022) from the University of South Africa, a Master of Laws (LL.M) with a specilaisation in Human Rights (2012 – 2015 from the University of South Africa , Post Graduate Diploma in Law (2005 – 2006) from Kenya School of Law and Bachelors of Laws (2000 – 2004) from Moi University, Kenya. In addition, Dr. Khakula has attended many international and regional programmes on topical issues that have enhanced his understanding of the law and other leadership and management fields, making him an all-round and well-grounded professional.
