Summary

Anastasiah Kimeu has over 5 years of experience strengthening health professions education at Amref International University. She participated in establishing the University and contributed to the development of the Master of Science in Health Professions Education curriculum. She has led the academic programme, taught, supervised students in research, examined, and graduated master's students of Amref Health Africa. Anastasiah has over 10 years of experience managing donor-funded health projects at Amref Health Africa. She has collaborated with Ministries of Health, the Commission for University Education, professional regulatory bodies, and international and local partners to strengthen human resources for health (HRH). Her work has focused on developing educational centres of excellence, designing and validating competency-based curricula, promoting e-learning and innovative teaching approaches, and enhancing faculty capacity through mentorship, pedagogy, and practicum support. Her efforts have contributed to strengthening health education systems to produce competent, market-ready graduates, with experience spanning both public and private institutions across sub-Saharan Africa in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Benin, Senegal, Cameroon, Somaliland, and South Sudan. Anastasiah has successfully managed donor-funded health system strengthening projects supported by USAID, GSK, Philips Healthcare Limited, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Working closely with Ministries of Health, community organisations, and HRH technical working groups, she has strengthened primary healthcare systems, strategic health purchasing, leadership and governance for non-communicable diseases, and institutional capacity for health professions education. Her work has advanced the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive learning. Beyond her professional role, Anastasiah contributes to community development by serving as Chairperson and Board member of two secondary schools in Makueni County and as a PTA member of Meru School. Anastasiah is a team player, agile, and results-oriented.
