Accomplishments

  • As a pioneer team in the Eastern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (Eastern Africa RCC); I actively involved and supported fully in operationalizing the RCC since the official establishment of the RCC in 2017.
  • Contributed and supported the development of the regional work plan on the communication and advocacy aspects, drafted different assessment and information sharing tools to identify the regional public health assets as well as gaps.
  • Leading and coordinating a regional public health information and knowledge exchange regional meeting using the ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcome) since April 2018, under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator. The Eastern Africa ECHO Hub has been one of the key tools to bring the 14 member states in the region to strengthening cross-border collaboration and public health information and knowledge sharing. As Public Health Fellow and Communication Officer in the Eastern Africa RCC, I also played a significant role for this meeting to be occurring on a regular basis and was able to increased participant countries through continuous follow-up.
  • Wrote articles on the Africa CDC Eastern Africa RCC supporting the region and contributed contents for the Africa CDC website. To mention a few, I wrote an article on the preparedness support for Ebola and Rift Valley Fever to the high-risk countries in the region 2018, on the Eastern Africa Hub ECHO platform compiling the participants’ feedback.
  • Created and also managing the Eastern Africa RCC Twitter account in 2019. Currently, the account has almost one thousand followers and has been driving engagements and prompting the Africa CDC and RCC major activities.
  • Collected and compiled the Eastern Africa RCC activities and pictures and contributed them to the Africa CDC annual reports from 2018 up to the present.
  • Through my effort, I was able to build great key links with a various focal point from the 14 Member States by fast-tracking the Africa CDCs activities implementation.
  • Through my help in facilitating communication and coordination with the Africa CDC rapid respondents, the communication flow has become faster and effective between the RCC and the Africa CDC HQ.
  • I contributed to the establishment of Public Health Risk Communication and Community Engagement for Africa (PH-RCCE-CoPA) and through this effort, we created a strong Risk Communication Network in the continent.
